Firefighters ambushed by Gunman while responding to Cepch Fire in Idaho: Sheriff

Firefighters were ambushed by a gun as they responded to a fire in Coeur d’Airne, Idaho, to Kootenai County Sheriff’s lieutenant, Jeff Howard, he told ABC News.

The incident was developed at approximately 1:30 pm local time after a small but growing brush fire in Canfield Mountain on Sunday afternoon.

When fire personnel responded to the fire about half an hour later, they began to receive a shot by an unknown person in the forest, Howard said.

Police are investigating whether the fire could have intentionally established to attract lifeguards to the scene, Howard added.

Emergency and police personnel were seen responding to an incident in Coeur d’Airne, Idaho, Sunday.

The search for the suspect is ongoing, they told ABC News informed ABC News. A police helicopter is flying over the area to try to locate the suspect in the air, authorities said.

Landing the helicopter to help on the ground becomes more difficult in the mountain field because the shooter is still in general, the authorities added.

The scene is considered an active shooter situation and a refuge order has been issued in the place for Canfield Mountain Trailhead and its surroundings.

The FBI is helping the authorities in Kootenai County, a spokesman for the ABC News said.

Idaho Governor Brad Little, described the incident as an “atrocious direct assault on our brave firefighters.”

“Multiple heroic firefighters were attacked today while responding to a fire in the north of Idaho,” Little wrote in a Publish in x. “I ask all the Idaho. That they pray for them and their families while we wait to learn more,” he added.

The Secretary of National Security Kristi Noem has been informed about the shooting, a DHS official to ABC News told ABC News.
