Former television presenter Ananda Lewis He has died, his sister Lakshmi Emory shared in a Facebook publication On Wednesday. Lewis was 52 years old.
Lewis, known for his role as MTV VJ and host of “Teen Summit”, was fighting breast cancer in stage 4.
“She is free and in her heavenly arms,” Emory wrote on Facebook. “Lord, rest your soul.”

Lewis first revealed He was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2020. He revealed the news in an Instagram video with the hope of encouraging other women to get a mammography. Lewis was fighting cancer at stage 3 at that time.
“I’ve been fighting cancer from my body for almost two years,” he said at that time. “For a long time, I have rejected mammograms, and that was a mistake.”
Lewis admitted that he rejected regular mammograms due to his fear of being exposed to radiation.
People are recommended with an average risk of breast cancer to begin the detection of mammograms from 40 years and even younger for those with a risk higher than the average. Mamographies are considered safe. They emit a very small amount of radiation, but less than a standard radiography.
“I need you to get your mammograms,” he implored, sharing that he had to adjust his diet and lifestyle. “I still have a lot of work to do … I wish I could return. I have a 9 -year -old boy for whom I need to be here.”
In October 2024, a year after his cancer had progressed in stage 4, Lewis spoke with Kelley L. Carter of ABC News To talk about his diagnosis and the treatment decisions he had to take, which included a negative to undergo a medically recommended double mastectomy followed by chemotherapy rounds.
“I couldn’t handle such drastic surgery in my life at that time,” he said. “He was a mother who stays at home, educated my son.
Lewis said at that time that he had opted for homeopathic treatment, including a change in his fractionated diet and chemotherapy, that doctors do not recommend as troops.
Since he revealed his cancer diagnosis, Lewis faced criticisms of others for his decision not to undergo surgery years before.
“None of those people know me and do not know the details of my situation,” he said. “I’m not going to sit here and fight people about their opinions. That is not related to my life. It’s a waste of time. And I don’t have time to lose.”
“Life owes me nothing,” he added. “Every day I have, I am grateful. What I do is concentrate on what I can fix. And what I can control.”
Lewis, who was born on March 21, 1973 in Los Angeles, began his career in Bet when she got a role as a “Teen Summit” presenter in 1993, a program of interview programs that focused on issues faced by black adolescents. It also included live performances.
In 2001, he had his own interview program called “The Ananda Lewis Show”.
The role for which many know Lewis was like MTV VJ. She organized a variety of shows that include “total request” and “Hot Zone”.
She was a “The Insider” correspondent from 2004 to 2017.
In his 2024 interview with Carter, when he was asked what people wanted to remember her, Lewis said: “He loved hard and lived strongly and did not get away from the problems and loved this life. And I agreed to let him go.”
“It’s a temporary situation, so do your best,” he added. “That’s all we are doing is our best.”
