The Senate will vote on Monday about whether it will advance in the Law of Protection of Women and Girls in Sports, whose objective is to encode the executive order of President Donald Trump, which prohibits transgender athletes from participating in women’s sports.
The legislation will need 60 votes to advance to debate when it arrives later on Monday afternoon. It is unlikely that Democrats provide the necessary support to advance, but the vote could be a politically challenge for some moderate vulnerable.

In the comments of the floor on Monday, the leader of the majority, John Thune, described the vote as “election time for the Democrats”, arguing that the policies that allow transgender athletes in women’s sports eliminate opportunities from female athletes.
The Chamber has already approved a version of this bill. The Senate considered it as an amendment to a government financing bill last year. At that time, all Democrats opposed, although voting to support him at that time could have risk a government closure.
